Money Saving

I LOVE to save money! It's kind of a sport for me. I try to find out how and where I can get the best deals. I also LOVE coupons! The Secret is Out!!!

I am no good at keeping a secret! I was gonna wait to tell you guys, but I can't! I will soon be doing Nutrisystem. How can someone like me who loves to cook and loves to eat do Nutrisystem? That's exactly why I'm doing it. I think I cook and eat pretty healthy but I have NO idea what a normal portion size is. I was very surprised to find out that most people don't eat a dozens muffins at one time(Not even mini-muffins?) or that most people don't eat two large pizzas when presented before a pizza buffet. Seriously, I love to eat! Well, that's why I've decided to try Nutrisystem, because who can afford(financially) to stray away from their program and my beautiful sister-in-law lost lots of weight doing it. My shipment will be here soon and I'll let you all know on a daily basis how I'm doing. I mean I have to tell you guys daily because how I feel about tiny portion sizes is too much to keep to myself for more than a day:-)

Remembering Black History Month

Well I got personally invited to a black history month celebration at my church, While a little reluctant to go (because of other priorities) I went. I had a blast to say the least which leads me to my post. We cannot forget how far we've come.
You know in school they used to celebrate this month along with Martin Luther King day, saying his speech and things of that nature but I really never understood the words that He spoke throughout the entirety of his speech. In school you have selective hearing and a very short attention span (well I did) anywhooo all I can remember from the speech or Could remember was "I Have A Dream" great words however not the base of the speech So here is a download. If this helps ,when listening I really thought about Me standing in the crowd and what I would have to go through if He would have never made the speech to begin with.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

But one hundred years later, the Negro still is not free. One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred years later, the Negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children.

It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. And they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

We cannot walk alone.

And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

We cannot turn back.

There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: "For Whites Only." We cannot be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until "justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream."¹

I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed.

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."2

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

And this will be the day -- this will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with new meaning:

My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.

Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim's pride,

From every mountainside, let freedom ring!

And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.

And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado.

Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

But not only that:

Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

Free at last! Free at last!

Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!3

What's New This Week?

This week I am super excited because hubby and I will start going to the gym together. We found a gym nearby that's only $10 a month and is family friendly(and by that I mean not a meat market).  I am SO VERY excited to have my wonderful husband there working out with me. Also, the childcare will watch all three of our kids for $5 a month. Where else can you find a babysitter so cheap? I haven't been to the gym since this summer and I miss it so much(I'm sure my body does too). It began to get just too expensive for just me to go and it seemed like more of a hang out for teens and youg adults. Anyhoo, You're all probably thinking I'm just a little overly excited, that may be, but one of my goals this year was to get in shape. So here I am taking a step to get me closer to my goal. Oh, and by the way, I'm taking another HUGE step towards that same goal later this week and I can't wait to let you guys in on what I'm doing. But until later this week it's sort of a secret :-)

CHOP CHOP! : )


So When I was younger I was NOT allowed to touch my clothing in any other manner than to wear them. So as my friends were writing all over their jeans,cutting them and an array of other experiments, I was stuck being (what I considered then)a boring teenager.Of course when I got older I never touched my clothing except to throw it into the trash when something went wrong!IE:ripped,stained,shrunk (I grew) etc....
But then it dawned on me when I was about to throw out about 5 pairs of worn out jeans and buy some shorts that I DID IT!!! Oh yeah Buddy I cut those jeans so fast and it was kind of a relief. I got carried away BIG TIME... I pulled out every item of clothing that was in my trash box and I went to work.. Cutting Shorts, covering stained tops with vest,sewing the pockets of jeans to have a new look... I did everything from chopping pantyhose to make girdles (hey the control tops work great for that (Especially if your wearing a skirt or dress that you don't want to wear pantyhose with)I also used the pantyhose for hair ties and decorations for my hair{no one noticed the difference}I also was just tired of some jeans that I had so I sewed the pockets into little bows and it made a new pair of jeans..

I say just have fun with it Ladies (or guys) CHOP CHOP!! My personal experience is I saved a lot more money making new outfits than if I were to toss the old a buy some new.. JUST HAVE FUN and KEEP SAVING...

A Day in the Life...

Of a monkey? a cat? a dog? a bat? a fly? No, just me. I'm always so nosey curious about how other people organize their day so if you're like me and you're a little nosey curious, then here's my basic schedule:

                                       This is a typical weekday schedule

5a.m.-Devotions(unless I drop hubby off at work at 2a.m. then I come right back home and spend time with the Lord then and then try to get a little more sleep until 6:30)

6:30- Everyone gets up and ready for the day( this includes making our beds, hygiene, dressed, bible study, and breakfast)

7:40- Take Bakari to school

8:30- Homeschool Beau jr.

12:00-School is over and it's time for lunch!

1:00- work out (sometimes, I just visualize working out instead of actually doing it:-)

2:00- tidy up (I do my deep cleaning on Saturday mornings)

3:00- Time to pick up Bakari from school and help do the crosswalk

5:00- dinner, homework, get ready for bed, and storytime

6:00- bed time for kids and hubby, I get on the computer and/or read until I fall asleep around 7p.m.

This schedule doesn't always work out but I use it as a guide, so I'm not just running around wondering what in the world should I do next.

Veggies all Clean!!!!


I always wash my fruits and veggies with my homemade mixture. I was eating my apple thinking maybe other people should know this. So if you don't know how to make this already here it goes...

Take 1/2 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 cup of water.
Mix well and put it into a spray bottle.
There you have it you own fruit and veggie wash for wayyyyy less money than you can get in the store.. and you know what's in it.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR




I am super-duper excited that it's almost Valentine's Day, YAY!!!!! I love going out with my hubby, Beau, to celebrate Valentines Day. It's like dating him all over again. It's all about him and I(and food). We usually go out to a nice dinner. I don't know why most things we do center around food:-) But our date night is so awesomely romantic. But, before we can plan out our special night we have to plan our wonderful son, Bakari's , birthday. He was born on Valentines Day. I am one blessed mama to get a special valentine from God. He's turning 7. Where has the time gone? So, thank you God for my sweet little valentine and I am so blessed to get to celebrate a birthday and the love in my marriage.   HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!!!

OMG I'm A Couch Potato!!!


Well Last week I was sick ( nothing serious,just a common cold.)But because of such I was laying around totally avoiding my exercise plan.AKA A Cough potato.... Every time I had a moment to take a break I sat in front of the T.V and "RELAXED".SO I needed to get my butt in gear and work it out ((literally)) So I limited myself to only watching T.V
at the gym and on the weekend.Which really works; I was surprised!!!!
So in short I make myself get up and get dressed (leg weights and all)) Then I wait till I know my shows coming on,ie: Clean house,wife swap,keeping up with the Kardashians or 18 kids and counting!!!!AND I high tail it to the gym so I don't miss anything and I work it out .YES success!!! Actually I found that I workout better because if I get done with my routine before my show is over I don't want to leave so I stay and keep working out!
HAVE FUN
